What you can do
The license lets you work with the code freely, and run it in production for your own business.
- Read, copy and modify the code, and redistribute it.
- Use it for anything that isn't production: testing, learning, evaluating.
- Run it in production for your own agency, your own team and your own clients, including giving your clients its portal.
What you can't do
One thing is reserved, so the company that builds SmoothOS can keep building it.
- Offer SmoothOS to others as a hosted or managed service.
- Sell a commercial product whose value comes entirely or substantially from SmoothOS.
- Use our name or logo beyond what the license requires.
- For anything outside these terms, a commercial license is available from the licensor.
When it becomes Apache 2.0
Each version has its own Change Date: three years after that version is first publicly released. On that date, that version is licensed under Apache 2.0. Newer versions follow on their own schedule.
Community Edition (planned)
A self-hosted Community Edition you can install on your own server is planned. It isn't available yet. Join early access and we'll tell you when it ships.
Contributing
Contributions are welcome through pull requests. Before we can merge one, you sign our contributor license agreement by commenting on the pull request. You keep the copyright in your work.
The repository
The public repository will be linked here when it opens.
Why source-available?
An agency runs its clients, its money and its memory through this system. That shouldn't depend on one company's mood. You can read how your data is handled, run the code yourself, and every version passes to Apache 2.0 on a fixed date, whatever happens to us. Salih Durak, founder.
